Treatment options - Skin tag removal

Skin tags are common, harmless growths of skin that can appear on the neck, underarms, eyelids, groin, or torso.

Whilst they are not medically concerning, many people choose to have them removed for comfort or cosmetic reasons, especially if they catch on clothing or jewellery.

At our SE1 Medical London (Bermondsey Street), our skin tag removal service is carried out by GMC registered doctors within our CQC registered clinic, so you can be confident you are receiving safe, professional care throughout.

Your Consultation

Every treatment begins with a consultation, this can be completed in clinic, however, most patients prefer to send photographs so that your doctor can examine the skin tag(s), confirm the diagnosis, and discuss the most suitable removal method for your skin type, the size and location of the lesion, and your personal preference virtually. If sending a photograph, please be mindful that the treatment pathway may change on the day of treatment when the tag is physically assessed. That goes for all our treatments booked online.

Removal Options

Cryotherapy uses liquid nitrogen to freeze the skin tag, destroying the tissue so it dries up and falls away naturally over the following days to weeks. This is a quick, minimally invasive option, well suited to smaller skin tags. It's performed without the need for local anaesthetic, though there may be a brief stinging or cold sensation during treatment, and some mild redness or blistering afterward is normal as part of the healing process.

Surgical Removal (Excision) for larger skin tags, or those on a broader base, surgical removal may be the more appropriate option. This is carried out under local anaesthetic for comfort, with the skin tag carefully excised using sterile surgical instruments. This method offers precise, immediate removal.
